'She had an art for gathering community.'

July 28th

This morning, I overheard a news story about a woman who had recently passed away.

The reporter shared only a few details about her life. She was 59. She had recently moved to start over, and her loved ones said she had an art for gathering community.

Of all the things they could have said about her life, that was what remained.

She had an art for gathering community.

I've been carrying that sentence with me all morning. I can't shake it.

I think we often mistake gathering for something we do. We imagine circles and retreats and beautiful offerings. We picture the visible expression of community building.

But after ten years of this work, I've learned that gathering isn't built in one grand moment. It's built in a thousand small labors of love.

Remembering names. Making space. Checking in. Setting the room. Pulling one more chair into the circle. Cleaning the mats after everyone has left.

The work that makes the magic often happens quietly.

It's not quite leadership. It's stewardship.

To steward something means to tend to it with care. To remain in relationship with it. To nurture what has been entrusted to you.

That's how I feel about women. That's how I feel about community.

At MM, we've always believed that when we work with women, we reach entire family units and communities. Our woman-at-the-center approach allows this work to ripple throughout households and lineages.

When women are seen, heard, understood, and well, everyone around them is changed by it.

We envision a world where women are valued for their unique perspectives and contributions, and where they have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Leadership Academy is simply one expression of that vision.

And my favorite part of Leadership Academy isn't what happens inside the program. It's what happens after.

The magic is watching women take the philosophy, the tools, and the confidence they've cultivated and weave it into their own lives.

Some women host circles, lead movement, and create retreats.

Some bring this work into their existing professions or discover an entirely new calling.

Some simply become the woman who gathers differently in her everyday life. For her family. Her neighbors. Her friends.

There is no single expression of leadership.

There is only your expression.

Maybe gathering women isn't something we do. Maybe it's something we practice. Maybe it's something we become.

Cohort 8 is calling in the final two women for this year's program. If you've been quietly circling this work, perhaps this is your invitation to lean a little closer.

I'd love to welcome you into the circle.

MM Aug 14th Hey! I get this question a lot, so maybe you're kinda wondering, too- What exactly is Leadership Academy? It's a fair question. It doesn't fit neatly into one box. It's not really a mastermind. It's not really a course. It's not really a membership. And at the same time, it's kind of like all three of those things. How it's like a mastermind: you're entering a space with other women who are building something of their own. Peer support, accountability, collaboration, perspective,...
