Mary Magdalene, in her early journey, finds herself at a well—perhaps in the desert, or in Egypt, or on sacred land where ancient priestesses once gathered. She approaches to draw water, weary and veiled. Mother Mary, older now, wise and serene, is already there.

As Magdalene leans forward to draw water, the fabric on her arm slips, revealing the golden serpent armband coiled around her upper arm.

Mary sees it—and she knows.

Not merely a decoration, the snakeband marks her as one who has been initiated. A priestess. A bearer of the ancient mysteries.

Mary, too, knows this symbol—not from Jewish tradition, but from older, deeper ones. Perhaps from Egypt, where she may have walked as a younger woman. Perhaps from dreams. From memory.

She sees the lineage in Magdalene's body. She sees that the sacred feminine has not been lost, but lives on in this woman—her son’s closest companion, the one who did not turn away at the cross, the one who anointed him, the one who holds the light.

A quiet nod. A knowing.
